I'm using Karmic on an old Dell Optiplex and I'm still getting console messages on bootup and reboot before the Ubuntu splash screen comes up...

Also I see the login on bootup and reboot appearing at the console, meaning if you didn't have a display manager, this is where you type in your username and pass to login.

I'm just calling this the console login which gets displayed for a few seconds....

The bootup and reboot process is a mess, the Splash screen isn't appearing when it should and when it does, it either comes to early or late and you constantly get messages and the login flying across the screen before the Splash appears...
