What's missing is automatic 'Jack Sense' support.

Ubuntu 9.10 comes with Alsa 1.0.20, whicle Alsa 1.0.21 does support Jack Sense for that specific chipset.

You can install Alsa 1.0.21 if you follow the instructions for AlsaUpgrade at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

Good luck!

@Simos
No need -- just use linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic

I can confirm bug on a same machine (Dell Vostro 1329) and same chipset, but on Archlinux, using alsa-lib 1.0.22-1

The is no mic sound, but there is some noise when I raise the mic volume, so I can conclude is the same 'Jack Sense' issue.

Hi p3car,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 442457

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

    [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I'm no running Lucid Beta 64 bits.
Seems like the internal mic is being used instead of external.
