Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

installed 9.10 beta, everything working just excellent on my laptop Acer TM 2413 NLM (910 intel graphics), even better than on ubuntu jaunty, but once I performed a partial upgarde (it was suggested option by update manager) xorg takes up to ~90-100% CPU usage, even permorming simple actions like minimize/maximize window, go to menu etc takes a lot of time to redraw the screen, seems like pervious version was much better to work on it.

please let me know which info I could provide else or how to help on this matter

thank you

Regards,
Eugene.

Hi eugene-mydomainkeeper,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I can confirm the same happens on i865G with clean boot from LiveCD (build of Kubuntu Karmic from 2009-10-05) and even clean install to hard disk (even updated after install from this build).
I'll post the logs today evening.

Hello, guys!

Thank you for bringing attention to this matter. I've the system updated today, now I have both: one is clean w/out updates and another one is up-to-date installed at the same time on a single machine, please see requested info attached for both system.

At this time those xorg bugs seems to be fixed, is working without lags, however, as I noted, dmesg ouputs some kind of x errors, please look into this, also maybe you find any other issues that require further invetsigation and separate tickets.

Thank you,

regards,
Eugene.

Please let me know if you need any additional info.

Thanks for yours comments, too. Todays upgrade fixed the problem - no more 100% CPU eated by Xorg. Big thanks to ubuntu developers.

I even could not to submit this report since system became frozen just a few seconds after FF started, tried few times to reboot with no success, X just kept freeze and nothing except hard reboot; in addition, windows are slow, xdm is blinking during startup, beta version worked much better (at least, video part)

once thing that I got working it was network pptp+vpn and sound )

please look into this

This sounds a lot like bug 439138 - can you review that bug and confirm or deny?

This bug report has been inactive for quite some time and in the meantime Ubuntu has moved along. I hope the reported problem has been resolved in the current version of Ubuntu. If it has not and there are people willing to follow up with information collecting and testing, it is best to file a new bug report with the latest Ubuntu development version (currently 10.04, but soon 10.10), using the ubuntu-bug command if possible. Feel free to mention the bug number of this bug.

We are sorry that we are not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. Occationally we have to purge old bug reports where no progress has been made, whether it is due to reporter not being able to respond or lack of manpower on the Ubuntu side, in order to keep our list of "active" bugs current. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.

Here are a few tips that will increase the chances that your bug gets priority:
* Read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting
* Browse https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X and see if there is some relevant information for you problem
* Respond quickly to questions from triagers
* Try changing things to see if the behaviour changes, e.g.
  * A new mainline kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D (more information at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds)
  * The xorg-edgers PPA: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa
  * Various options in `/etc/X11/xorg.conf` (see `man intel`)
* Browse other bug reports to see if you find a similar one and provide the information that is being asked for there.
