Bug Description

There are a few things still lacking for the latest generation Macbook Pro but I will just highlight on one, getting better keyboard support.

According to the online Wiki for Karmic these things should work, but they don't.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-5/Karmic?action=fullsearch&context=180&value=linkto%3A%22MacBookPro5-5/Karmic%22

Under 'Keyboard Functions' the keys aren't working for the screen brightness the F1 and F2 keys to adjust brightness and the F5 and F6 keys aren't working for the keyboard light.

I hope these things can be improved before Karmic goes final.

THANKS

The same happens to me. After upgrade to KArmic, I lost the function of those keys F1 F2, and F5 and F6.

I have a 5,4 15" MBP and the keyboard backlight keys are not working for me under Karmic either, so this is not just a 5,5 issue.

I can confirm the same problem on Karmic/MBP 5,5 and that the backlights can be turned on with the following (from the wiki):

echo 255 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness

Same here on a MBP 5,3.
Backlight can also be turned on with:

echo 255 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu development version, this would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

I have confirmed that this is not an issue on a MacBook 1,1 Linux Macintel 2.6.31-20-generic
