Bug Description
Binary package hint: acpid
On my HP Compaq 8710p the ACPI does not get reset well.
I used this script:
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
cat /proc/acpi/
If I turn of my laptop for a few minutes and turn it on again, I get:
status: off
status: off
status: off
status: off
status: on

If I reboot, or turn on the laptop within a few minutes I get:

The result is that the fan blows at full speed, which is very annoying (and battery consuming). Bios is compiled with MSFT-compiler. Can Ubuntu force the table to be reset during boot?

Sounds similar to what's happening on Dell Latitude D600. After most recent upgrade, the fan runs constantly.
