I encountered this today in Kubuntu 9.10 release.

I have double-checked that the ISO I burned was "kubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso" -- i.e. not the beta.

Log attached.

(I hope I correctly re-opened this bug, I've never used this bug tracker before)

I noticed in the log file that I attached:

I know very little about Wubi and its installation procedure, but it seems that it's trying to match the hash of the i386 ISO against the amd64 ISO that it found on one of my network shares.

http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/download lists the following:
5a996e0d794e35509d0275d411a3e737 kubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso
18ecb71bff567ce7a91443720a86473e kubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso

Kevin, I think the problem occurs because you have both an ISO (Y:\ubuntu-9.10-rc-desktop-amd64.iso
) and a CD (E:)

Can you please try to remove the ISO and do a new installation?

Kevin (kevwilde) wrote :

Agostino, I only have an ISO. The CD tray (E:) is empty.

Are you sure you have no CD? I don't see how I could get the above log otherwise.

Oh, my apologies. E:\ is my daemontools virtual cd station. D:\ is my physical (real) drive.

So can you please try to delete Y:\ubuntu-9.10-rc-desktop-amd64.iso and run the installer again?

I am quite sure this problem happens when you have both a ubuntu ISO with invalid md5 (e.g. release candidate after final release or corrupted ISO) and a Ubuntu CD. The kubuntu amd64 was evaluating to invalid because of bug #465936.

Maybe you could check the sources list, as KPackageKit also suffers from:

TypeError: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, NoneType found

It seems, the python apt-backend-end tries to show an errormessage, if a source is invalid.
