Bug Description

Binary package hint: amule

When trying to mark aMule for installation in Add/Remove, it gives this message:
"
Cannot install 'amule'

This application conflicts with other installed software. To install 'amule' the conflicting software must be removed first.

Switch to the 'synaptic' package manager to resolve this conflict.
"

This is because amule recommends amule-utils, which in turn depends on libgd2-xpm, which conflicts with libgd2-noxpm, which is already installed by default in Ubuntu, I am almost sure.

Should this be a bug? How do we handle this?

I would like to be able to tell my clients that they can install aMule via Add/Remove, of course.

Many blessings.

I have not be able to check this as ubuntu changed to software center since karmic, but I don't remember to have had any problem installing amule in any release.
Are you still experiencing this problem?

In karmic, ubuntu-desktop depends on libgd2-xpm so you won't experience this conflict. In jaunty, the problem is that If you have libgd2-noxpm installed, you won't be able to install amule through the add/remove.
