Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

This is very buggy. This time I was allowed to post. There seems to be a problem with the tools-clear private data which does not clear cache and has no reaction with history that no longer compiles. All bookmarks have vanished. Impossible to make new bookmarks from small pop up window option. While viewing a Chinese URL (56.com?) the browser just closed. I am no longer able to view any streamed video on youtube. RhythumBox still is acting up with some programed radio stations RE Universidad de Puerto Rico(http://www.radiouniversidad.pr/hifi.m3u), although it is working now.

I am not sure about packages but this is what I have found in Synaptic Package Manager:

firefox 3.0.5 nobinonly-0ubuntu0-8.10.1

ubunfox 0.6-0ubuntu1

I hope this is useful. If you need further help with information please contact the email which I will be checking. I had planned on removing Ubuntu 9.04 which now refuses to reboot as well as Ubuntu Ibex 8.10 which is now getting to be really unpredictable and disfunctional. I have made a optical disk of Hardy Herron and would like to install that but am not sure as to how to proceed. I tried to do a live session with it and it did work with one exception. I only gave me an option pf screen resolution of 800x600 instead of the original 1200x800 which at one timed worked with Ubuntu 8.10 but suddenly vanished after running an update.

While still searching for packages I preformed a search for repository indexes with the following result??:
two indexes are not fetched:

cdrom: [Ubuntu 8.10_Intrepid Ibex_Release i386 (20081029)/dist/Intrepid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz

cdrom:Ûbuntu 8.10_Interpid Ibex_Release i386 (20081029)/dist/Intrepid/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz

Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD ROMs.

I don't understand what the above means so if you could enlighten me on this, I would be very pleased.
Finally I will not mark this as a security vulnerability as I am not qualified to judge, however the instability of all these problems is very troubling.
Thanks in advance for your attention to these matters.

Additionally and what may more disturbing - the switcher/shutdown Icon locked to my top "pannel" does not function. The only way to shut down is to do it through the main menu. Likewise all the switching options do not work either.

This may be some sort of configuration problem rather than a bug??? Still, I wonder about possible solutions that would at least bring the computer back to the original default settings for Ibex 8.10. Or if at all possible purge both Ibex and Jaunty and replace with Hardy Heron.

Please advise.

I am a bit lost in any case. I assume that "the most recent version of this package" for Ubuntu refers to Firefox 3.5...?
I would greatly appreciate it if you pointed me to the procedure that I must do in order to upgrade. I have already looked at the Firefox page and attempted an upgrade of 3.5.3. This has not worked.

I have also tried going to the terminal to do:   sudo apt - get update
This starts and gets hung up 62% and produces: "hit" and "Ign" for various updates. Then terminates thus:

Sorry for the confusion. I was actually referring to Firefox 3.0.14.
You might want to try again as the server might have been overloaded
with the recent release of Karmic Beta.

Upon further research in trying to upgrade to Firefox 3.5.3 according to:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements.html
I need to have the following libraries or packages:

    * GTK+ 2.10 or higher
    * GLib 2.12 or higher
    * Pango 1.14 or higher
    * X.Org 1.0 or higher
All check as per the Package Manager d'jure...lol (at this point I feel I must maintain a sense of humor).

Of the optional following libraries or packages:

    * NetworkManager 0.7 or higher
    * DBus 1.0 or higher
    * HAL 0.5.8 or higher
    * GNOME 2.16 or higher
The computer was only deficient w/ NetworkManager, which has now been updated.
I don't know what else to do at this point. Perhaps a break and then try again to download from mozilla's download for linux/Fierfox 3.5.3

Yes, Firefox 3.0.14 is now functioning! This happened only after I formated my machine for only Hardy Heron. I can understand how this can be traumatic if one does not backup data. Still, little if anything of importance was lost and everything can be retrieved if necessary, but most things like endless bookmarks sometimes are better cleaned up.

The machine in combination with the newly installed Hardy Hero 8.4, still has the problem of not recognizing or providing me with a screen resolution of 1200x800. As my complaint here was the fact that Firefox was really acting up and is not now, I will once again post this other ailment after looking for possible reasons for its occurrence. I think this is a generalized problem in that other as well have similar problems. But this is not the place to try and resolve this.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
