Bug Description

Got an automatic crash-report, agreed to submit information to the developers, but really can't tell You, what went wrong . . .
(K)ubuntu 9.10 alfa6's X-server did NOT crash, when I activated Composit-Type "OpenGL" and 'effect for window-change'="3D-window-gallery" (sorry - translation from german setup), but so far, I didn't see any "Windows"-pile . . .

cheers

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, apport's automatic crash report didn't yield the information required for us to properly handle this bug. Please go ahead and submit a new crash report if it crashes again with the latest available version of the package. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

'til now there was no other crash, but system is a bit unstable in a way:
My i865( with P4-2,8GHZ-HT) got a "TT-budget DVB-S2 3200"-pci-card, using
Kaffeine with it, sound, while receiving DVB-S2 channels(Eins Extra HD
showcase), is interrupted und vanishes sometimes. Restarting the PC I can be
lucky to enjoy Kubuntu-HD-TV with fluent picture- and sound-stream via INTEL-
sound-chip. (It's nearly like using XP's "DVB Viewer") - CPU-loads of No.0 and
No.1 reach to 100%, but not at a time.
After next restart things may have changed . . .

Dear Mr. Thomas,

I did not intend to give You any inconviniance. But, as You know, there still
is a lot of work to do for the (K)ubuntu-developers.

. . . libamdxvba1_8.661-0ubuntu1_i386.deb is missing libstdc++5, which is NOT supported anyway !????
It's not installable for "unresolved dependencies" . . .

What a pity !

. . . but libstdc++6 exists, so

does the job !?

 . . . perhaps should be integrated into the ubuntu-tree ?

After installation of libstdc++5, libamdxvba1 can be installed successfully.

As next I tried the "proprietary-driver" from AMD's web-site(latest version: Nov.4 2009):

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.5&lang=English

"sh ati-driver-installer-9-11-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic" compiles

fglrx-installer_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.changes
fglrx-modaliases_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
xorg-driver-fglrx_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
fglrx-amdcccle_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
fglrx-kernel-source_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libamdxvba1_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
xorg-driver-fglrx-dev_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

If "Pulse-Audio"-sound is installed correctly and chosen as primary-HDMI-sound-device(system-settings -> Multimedia),
Kaffeine is able to display fluent DVB-S2-video(Eins Festival HD 1280x720) with at most times fully stopped HDMI-sound-stream(sound is NOT! muted via pulse-audio-mixer), but system is not locked by this anymore since CPU-load is "only" 70% in average now!!!
So using "Pulse-Audio" boosts system-performance, although there is no sound for my HD-TV yet, when watching DVB-S2.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.
