Bug Description

MacBook 5,1 changing to the correct keyboard mapping (ie Apple, Macbook International) generates the following error on UK keyboard:
Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
10603000

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Results are:

_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "gb", "mac", ""
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "gb", "mac", ""
mark@mark-laptop:~$ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = []
 options = []
 model = macbook79
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keyboard is still not correctly mapped - ie £ key cannot generate hash when alt 3 is typed

Thank you for the report, but this is not a launchpad bug, re-assigning to Ubuntu.
We're interested in why you accidentally recorded this bug as occurring in Launchpad instead of Ubuntu. If you can explain what happened, please let us know in bug 88818.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
