Bug Description
Binary package hint: gcc-4.3
Ubuntu 9.04
Package version: 4.3.3-5ubuntu4
While installing a package which depended on g++, ran out of space on root filesystem (apt-get install had indicated that a smaller amount of space was required than I had available, so took a chance and went ahead with the install).
Expectation: If there is not enough disk space, installation should fail gracefully and allow the half installed package to be purged.
Reality: apt system unusable until I had manually deleted some files and forced the installation to complete, causing the generation of the associated automatic error report.

That's not really a bug. APT can only estimate the required disk space, it does not know it for sure.
