Bug Description

In my indicator-applet 0.1 drop down menu I have GMail Notifier, Empathy, Evolution Mail, and Pidgin Instant Messenger. When gm-notify finds new mail they appear below the Evolution Mail section instead of below GMail Notifier.

I have Empathy and gm-notify, and sometimes a new item appears below Empathy instead of gm-notify.

interesting - but I think this is a upstream problem, because I don't have any access to the other message counts from gm-notify... Let's hope it's fixed in Karmic

I marked as affecting indicator-applet I believe this is the appropriate upstream package. We shall see what somebody from there thinks.

I don't think that this is a problem with gm-notify. In my installation the order of the items in the menu – including the seperators – seems to be quite random. At the moment, it is (with Evolution and Pidgin running):

Evolution Mail

---- seperator ---

Evo. Account Name (0)

Another Evo. Account (0)

Pidgin Internet Messenger

Empathy
   Send and receive messages

--- seperator ---

Especially the seperator at the bottom seems odd.

I can confirm this random positioning of indicators happens to various applications that use the indicator-applet.

Normally doing a "killall gnome-panel" which forces a reload of the applet will restore the layout of indicators and their server.

This seems to be fixed, after recent upgrade of various packages (Oct 5 - Oct 6), my indicator applet can display all indicators in the right place (under each applicaiton they belong to) and the layout is not randomly changed any more.

I can confirm that it seems to work correctly now. In the last days, I've only seen once an extra separator at the bottom, but the rest has been okay.

I still regularly get menu entries on the wrong side of the separator. Known issue?
