Did more test:

X running:
hibernate OK, go through some glitchy screens before desktop comes back.
suspend: NOK crack on resume, freezes on a black screen.

Not X running:
Both hibernate and suspend work fine

Can you try switching to text mode (e.g. vt1 with Ctrl-Alt-F1) before going into suspend? And after resuming, going back to X with Alt-F7.

I did a
pmi action suspend > /root/suspend.out 2> /root/suspend.err

On resuming, everything went fine until I return on F7.

what helped me, was adding the boot parameter "acpi_sleep=s3_bios,s3_mode" in the grub. as far as i know in some computers only s3_bios or s3_mode is neeeded (not both)

this bug was opened long ago, but it still occurs.

here are the details:
$ uname -a
Linux fujitop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

To be noted: Hibernates, hibernate but lock up on resume, machine is not pingable.

Suspend suspends fine, on resume, the machine is up and only the screen keep black. Restarting gdm did not change anything, the display is simply turned off (no lights)

the kern.log are taking before suspend (kern.log.0) and on resume (kern.log)
