ubuntu-artwork is no longer a dependency of ubuntu-desktop

My packaging system is all gung-ho to remove ubuntu-artwork from my
system. Ubuntu-desktop does not depend on ubuntu-artwork. Please can we
restore some sort of dependency there?

Hmm. I've gone back through history, and ubuntu-artwork was never a direct dependency of ubuntu-desktop (there's no mention of it at all in the seeds, unless it was before the Warty release). gdm depends on ubuntu-artwork | edubuntu-artwork | xubuntu-default-settings, which is how this gets pulled in. Do you perhaps have one of the others installed?

I can see an argument that we should add ubuntu-artwork to ubuntu-desktop now that the derivatives are doing this ...

gdm currently only recommends the artwork packages...

See bug #4380. This change was supposed to be accompanied by adding ubuntu-artwork to the desktop seed.

I made the necessary seed change, but it isn't propagating to Colin's public seed checkout, which is used to generate ubuntu-meta.

Can we move the seed archive from chinstrap to the supermirror yet, so that we don't need this arrangement?

I don't know where you committed it, but it wasn't pushed to chinstrap:/home/warthogs/archives/seeds.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/seeds/dapper/, which is the primary branch. I've committed it myself.

Don't supermirror branches have to be mirrors of something? In which case it sounds like that would have very similar problems. I'm happy to move the master seed archive to rookery somewhere though, which would eliminate the requirement for complicated mirroring-over-ssh-from-cron. Let's discuss that outside this bug at some point.
