Bug Description

I'm trying to use Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha6. When I insert the live CD I can for sure surf the net by wi-fi,but when I install Ubuntu into the HDD,network manager doesn't recognize any connection. I have an Atheros wi-fi card (Atheros AR242x)!
In Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope it's all OK (both on live CD and on HDD the connection exist).

I had this same problem. Basically, you need to install wireless drivers for your wireless card from hardware drivers to get them working.

You shouldn't have to run hardware drivers as Atheros chipsets are covered by the ath5k and ath9k drivers which are both FOSS and are in the kernel tree.

Running apport-collect as Alexander suggested will give us some log files to look at to help diagnose the problem.

Also, you might want to re-test with Karmic Beta as opposed to Alpha 6.

It's not that the hardware don't work it's that the hardware driver when I click activate it doesn't do anything just ask for password then doesn't do anything
