It happens when i try to boot ubuntu 9.10 ltsp via pxe. host and client arch is i386

on the server i did chroot into /opt/ltsp/i386 and did a update-initramfs and did run ltsp-update-kernels after that.

This is a known issue and a fix has been developed and uploaded to ltsp-trunk.
I'm waiting for a couple of other fixes, then I'll make a new bugfix release and get that into the archive.

I run Edubuntu DVD 9.10 (Final) in KVM machine. No problems at all when booting pxe thin client. This is fixed.

If it is fixed, than why would I still be experiencing this problem, please? I have the latest versions installed, I ran update-initrd -u in the chroot and ltsp-update-kernels and ltsp-update-image.

Could it be that it isn't solved completely or that I don't have the latest version of the package with the fix?

"It is fixed" to me means that all my thin clients in my test environment can boot (HP t5125, Asus Eee 900, HP Mini 2133, Intel Atom/ION and Acer TM 6592 (ATI)) can boot via pxe. I can't say why your experience is so different.

What kind of thin client you are using - when you try to boot it via pxe - your thin client never boots?

Hi.

If you see my message posted here:

I'm having a similar problem with all patches up to date on 9.10. It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen.

Jason.

Dear Asmo,

I only have one client at the moment; a Pentium II desktop. So far it always gets stuck with this problem.

I added the LTSP project but on second thought this may be an Ubuntu issue only - I don't know.

Perhaps it is fixed, but some actions are required other than upgrading the packages on the server and the client chroot and running ltsp-update-image?

Can you check if the problem remains after doing this:

1. Make sure you have the latest "ltsp-server" package installed on the server
2. remove /opt/ltsp/i386
3. ltsp-build-client -a i386

Hello
I have the very same problem

I have the same message as Hura (see that sceen shot)
I have performed:
"Can you check if the problem remains after doing this:

2. remove /opt/ltsp/i386
3. ltsp-build-client -a i386
"
Now the thin client (hp5500) boot up every time. The complete boot-up time is more than 5 min.
On the 8.04 ltsp it was less (not measured)
After receiving the IP address the thin client shows in the order as below
1)a black screen with the white ubuntu logo
2) the screen shot as that from Hura. Except : the lease time is 43200, the line after the last “terminated with satus 1” says "starting LTSP client"
3) The TC continues and boot into the loggin screen (4 minutes after IP address receiving).
4) I can log inn. Then it takes again 1 minute to complete the whole process and before I can work on the TC.
Remark
Compiz is active on the server. The thin client has no visual effect.
A reboot until the loggin screen takes less than a minute. Until the desktop 1 min.

I have the impression that the TC is working slow compared by the 8.04 LTSP setup.

I hope this comments will help improving the process.

Forgive me,

It was my mistake somewhere. Probably with my custom RC file which never terminated.

I have recently installed a 64bit Karmic server, upgraded all packages to be up to date, and installed LTSP. I configured a i386 LTSP client to be booted via PXE and I have this exact issue booting Intel dual-core atom clients.

Sometimes they boot, sometimes they stall at the screen in the original bug report, and sometimes they stay at that screen for a little while and then continue to "Starting LTSP server"

Any insight would be appreciated.

Do you have any custom scripts? Any changes to the client chroot?

The mountall warnings are just warnings. They shouldn't prevent anyone from booting.
A fix for the warnings was committed in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/revision/1692

Anyone that continues to have boot problems please open another bug, remove "quiet" from /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default and post whatever he sees on the output, *except* for the mountall warnings.
