Bug Description

When I plug in my webcam, a Logitech Quickcam Fusion (lsusb = ID 046d:08c1 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Fusion) it won't work. I get this information when I type dmesg:

[ 6273.908011] usb 1-7: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
[ 6274.218226] usb 1-7: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

[ 6277.324699] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:08c1)
[ 6277.360822] uvcvideo: UVC non compliance - GET_DEF(PROBE) not supported. Enabling workaround.
[ 6277.370023] uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC probe control : -32 (exp. 26).
[ 6277.370027] uvcvideo: Failed to initialize the device (-5).

[ 6278.402877] 6:3:3: cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x86

But I've found a workaround in the Gentoo Forum:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/259834

If I plug in the webcam and type in "rmmod uvcvideo" and then "modprobe uvcvideo" the webcam gets recognized and works!!!

Hi Alex,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 434676

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Booted Lucid Lynx, plugged in the webcam and it worked! Just great! Do you still need kernel-logs?

After reinsterting uvcvideo module, I am getting just stipes instead of image and after few minutes it freezes that also.

Frantique, have you tried forcing the device to USB1 instead of USB2? I have mine plugged into an USB1 hub and after removing and re-probing uvcvideo, Cheese displayed a perfect image. Of course it's still a bug that the module has to be re-probed manually...

iGadget (igadget) wrote :

Hmmm nevermind, I got exactly the same (working) result when bypassing the USB1 hub and plugging the cam directly into my PC. So this means a small step forward - no more USB1 required. But the re-probe is still needed.

This bug affects me too.

Vanilla Lucid 64 bits, with Logitech Wecam Fusion (ID 046d:08c1)

Exactly same behaviour, with re-probe required ...

I have the same problem. The last kernel update has improved the problem. But I still get a lock about every 1 in 7 times. I've found a purported workaround at this site: http://www.techytalk.co.cc/2010/07/logitech-e3500-wXTlSgCebcam-and-cannot-set-freq-16000-to-ep-0x86/. But i haven't tested yet.

I had the Logitech Fusion webcam laying about so tried it and noted the same problem. I have to rmmod and then modprobe the uvcvideo module for the webcam to work. It then seems to work OK but I have not tested extensively.

After years of being unable to get my Logitech Fusion working in Ubuntu, I'm delighted to report it now works in Maverick, with a tiny caveat. I used Cheese as the first test application and it did not work, but the video test did work in gstreamer-properties, and then the video subsequently worked in Cheese, even after a reboot.
