Bug Description
Binary package hint: xsplash
Since approximately 2009-09-19, usplash is no longer shown, resulting in up >= 60 of completely black screen with no indication of function, or progress (initially I assumed the machine was completely hung).
If fsck runs, this black screen of doom can last >= 10 minutes! With absolutely zero feedback. Should fsck fail, the user is likely completely screwed.
Ideally, some form of visible throbber should be shown if a black screen would have been displayed for >= ~3 seconds maximum. (GNOME HIG would suggest 1.0 seconds).
