update-manager cannot update the packages

Binary package hint: update-manager

hi

i have ubuntu 9.10
my update-manager cannot Install packages
it open, then i got the list of new packages, then usually i click Install updates ans it download-install packages checked.
Now when i click Install updates it give me back the list of packages without downloading-installing. it's like a back and return back the list!

also if i go to Synaptic manager, the application will not open.

so in other words, my ubuntu cannot be update!

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please open a termianl window and run:
$ update-manager
and attach the output when the failure happensß

And the same for:
$ sudo synpatic
