Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Hi al,

Looks similar to #272825.... :

Sometimes recovery crashes right afer it says the doc is recovered (not even clicking "done"...).
Sometimes it crashes during recovery
Sometimes it crashes after the doc is open and I use the scroll bar.
Sometimes I can work in the doc and save it. Problem occurs when trying to reopen it, crashes on loading and back to one of the above cases....

Hard to give you more information.

Please feel free to contact me for additional tests if it can help.

Bard, this issue is unreproducible in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/433506/+attachment/732154/+files/TeachingAds1.odt && lowriter -nologo TeachingAds1.odt

opens quickly and successfully. Does this work for you?

Hello Chris,

Just tried it.
It opens quickly with no issue in LibreOffice.

Great to see that LibreOffice works faster and better than OpenOffice.
Just proves that Oracle didn't do anything to improve OpenOffice...

Still under Lucid 64-bit.

Regards,

Bernard

Bard, regarding openoffice.org your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
