I don't have that error with pretty much the same exact setup. There is nothing under /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/faces/ so I wonder what is trying to load that. Anyone else able to reproduce or help troubleshoot? Thanks!

Changed in kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Yes, this comes when you change the default desktop theme from "Oxygen" to something else.

You need to login to an empty Destop and press ALT+F2 to open a exute command line, type in "systemsettings"
and change the style back to "Oxygen".

After an logout and and a new login you get again a complete desktop.

I can't even find this folder "/faces"

NEITEHER ON JAUNTY OR KARMIC.

This BUG prevents karmic from using any other style as Oxygen.

The problem is, that first it works when you switch the style, but as soon as you re-login or re-start you only get an empty or black desktop.

Changed in kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium
summary: - KDM_greet: cannot load .../default.face while don't exist

I have also this problem with Kubuntu 9.10 and I have not changed the oxygen theme.
Every time I start the system it tries to start Kde session without login, then fails, then prompt for login.

The problem is with the microblogging plasmoid that kubuntu ships as default. It has a little "configure" nag button which breaks with any non oxygen style.

It seems like this bug is with that plasmoid, and it's inclusion on the default workspace.

That can't be it... I removed the plasmoid, changed styles, logged out and tried to log back in only to be hit with eternal darkness. This bug sucks

Perhaps another widget on your desktop also has some qt widget?

Well I'll be a monkey's Uncle in skin tight cheetah pants... The other widget was the OpenSocial widget. I removed the widget, changed styles, killed plasma-desktop, then launched it from the command line and bam got my desktop back. Logged in and out, everything works.

This isn't a fix but at least were getting to closer to what needs fixing
