The applet simply shows an exclamation mark and pops up a message saying there is a fatal error

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. The good news is that we're working on a fix to this problem. One thing that will help us is to know whether you get this error all the time or just some times? Thank you for your patiences and helping us make Ubuntu One better!
