Bug Description

If you follow these steps, you end up with a corruptly formatted email:

1. Create a new message
2. Specify your own email address
3. Give it a subject
4. As body type some characters, anything
5. Then change the style to preformat
6. Paste in the three lines from the attached text file, it should look like a table
7. Click send

The user is not asked whether they want to send it in HTML email (which would probably fix the problem), and the email message that arrives doesn't look like the one that was sent.

Can you please attach the output of the following commands:
apt-cache policy thunderbird mozilla-thunderbird
lsb_release -a
uname -a

Do you have any extensions/add-ons/ themes installed, if so what are they?

Please make sure to check preferences menu (edit->preferences->composition->general->send options the first section should have an ask me what to do.
I have it checked and it asked me how i would like to send it. You can also choose to always send HTML or plain text and send as both.
What did you have set there by default or at least when you filed this bug.

As requested, detail below, no extensions.

The Edit/Preferences/Composition/General/Send Options is set to "Ask me what to do", and yet it consistently does not ask me what to do when I have preformatted text in the email. If I include an image or a table in the email, then it does ask me whether I want to send it as HTML, but with preformatted text alone, it does not present the option.

Note that I do not have any signature that adds images or any other attachments or tables to the email.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 432285, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
