Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

With default KMS enabled my intel card goes in black screen during boot

System:
Karmic Alpha 6

Kernel:
2.6.31-10-generic

Video:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

Workaround:
1) At the grub menu list press 'e' (edit) in the line of the kernel
2) Move the cursor at the option 'splash' and write after that nomodeset
3) CTRL-X to boot

Hi dentaku65,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I have the same problem with an aging Thinkpad X40. Note that kernel 2.6.31-09-generic boots fine with it.

Here is the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`.

After yesterday's updates with the 2.6.31-13 kernel, the splash screen appeared.

same problem with the current generic kernel 2.6.31-14.48 and xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2.9.0-1ubuntu2 in combination in i386 mode
workaround setting modeset=0 as kernel bootparameter

Things are working properly in Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick). I haven't upgraded to natty yet, so I cannot tell.
