Inkscape crashes when creating/clicking any object

Inkscape 0.46

Whenever I create or click an object (image, vector, whatever), inkscape crashes. It lets me create it, and the object is selected (it has controls around it)

but it gives me "Inkscape has encountered an internal error and will close now"

the terminal has the following to say to this:

Could you test if the proposed workaround in bug #224020 <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/224020/comments/5> helps? Otherwise you might test with the latest prerelase version (source: <http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.47pre2/> ) if your issue still persists - unfortunately I don't know if (and where) packages for arch linux are available.
