Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

There seems to be a problem with the gnome keyboard initialization. I boot into runlevel 3, then start X with 'ssh-agent startx'. I have caps lock redefined as additional control key. But after starting X, caps lock acts as caps lock. I need to go to System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layouts->LayoutOptions. The options show that caps lock is redefined as additional control. I need to change the option to default, then back to 'Make CapsLock an additional Ctrl' at which point things work as desired - until the next reboot, that is.

Hello Wolfgang

Can you verify if this problem is present with the latest updated Karmic or Lucid's packages?

If it still exist, please run in a terminal:

apport-collect 432024

Thanks
Fabio

Fabio,

This was reported on 8.04.3 and persisted on all Hardy upgrades. I've
moved on to 10.04 and the problem no longer exists. I never ran Karmic
or Lucid and don't have an easy way to go back. Since the problem was
related to maintaining state, it probably can't be checked with a live CD.

Regards,
