Bug Description

I imported a pdf file containing enrolment receipts. Cut out one of them and saved as svg. SVG file displays correctly in both Inkscape 4.6 and 4.7 as well as in Opera.
Exported as emf from Inkscape 4.6: OK
Exported as emf from Inkscape 074p1-22040-090810.win32: Outer border lines missing.
Attached: svg file, emf exported from 4.6, emf exported from 4.7

for emf export, I believe this has been fixed (somewhat incidentally) in bzr rev 9995, could you test and confirm?

Sorry, the latest version available for my system (win32) at http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/ is inkscape_R9983-1012261236.7z - or is rev9995 for win32 available elsewhere?

As of <Thu Jan 6 12:15:31 CET 2011> not yet. At the moment, Windows development builds are uploaded alternatingly to the two sites listed on the download page <http://inkscape.org/download/>:

<http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?C=M;O=D>
<http://www.oss-marketplace.com/index.php/downloads-mainmenu-63/Inkscape/Entwicklerversionen/>

so (unfortunately) it is needed to check both sites - latest at the moment is r9994 on oss-marketplace.com. (I'm in contact with the person responsible for building, packaging and uploading the win32 development snapshots to either provide better information about where the latest version can be found or upload the packages to both sites).

I tested the svg with inkscape_r10080-201103061736.7z

Export of the borders seems to be dependent on the exact position of the drawing relative to the page borders.
Sometimes all borders are exported, sometimes one is missing, sometimes two are missing.
After moving the drawing on the page, not only the number of missing borders is changed but also which border(s) (top, left, right and/or bottom).
In some cases export of the borders changes depending on whether "convert text to pathes" is checked, in other cases it doesn't.

I have not been able to reproduce the problem by moving the picture before exporting it. As far as I can tell, the exported picture is independent of the positioning of the original image.

However, I have encountered a serious problem in the emf viewer. I am using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to load the emf file and the result it produces depends a great deal on the zoom level. By zooming in and out, I can make the border lines randomly disappear, which is a deficiency in the viewer, not the emf file.

I think the source of the problem is that the border lines are not lines, but are rectangles of width 0.5 pixels. The rectangles have no stroke, only a fill, and with a width of less than 1 pixel, it is to be expected that not all viewers will do a good job. Interestingly enough, if I take one of these emf files which do not view properly in 'Picture and Fax Viewer' and if I load it into Inkscape, it will view properly with no missing lines.

You are completely right. The problem seems to depend on the application which is used to import or view the emf file in conjunction with the borders being problematic objects.

So I agree to closing this bug.

Thank you for taking your time,

Wilfried

thanks for testing; if there is no objection, I'll mark this as a duplicate of Bug 407394.

If you feel this is in error, or if the problem reappears, please feel to revert the status.
