Copy and paste when closing gedit

Bug Description
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04
When you have gedit and
1) select some text and copy it (e.g. with CTRL+INS)
2) close gedit
3) try to paste the copied text somewhere else
you cannot, the copy seems disappeared...
