In netbook remix edition of Ubuntu desktop-switcher doesn't disable maximus while switching to desktop mode. It probably should include code to enable it back while switching back to netbook launcher.

Is maximus actually resizing / changing the appearance of your windows or is it just a running process?

As forgconftool-2 -g /apps/maximus/undecorate /apps/maximus/no_maximize
In netbook mode it's of course:
true
false

But in desktop it's:
false
false

So the "undecorate" is set properly, yet "no maximize" stays unchanged forcing all windows unnecessary maximized.
Probably not big bug, rather some oversight.

In fact this proces could be killed every time while switching to desktop mode and started again when going back to netbook as theres no need to keep it running in usual Ubuntu desktop mode. Well it's not consuming too much CPU time, but as I said no need for it in desktop mode at all.

I've tried to kill it manualy yet it's restarted automaticly (first time seen any background proces behaving like that). So it unverified if windows would run in normal size without it, but I guess they should.

I am having the same problem. I want to use Desktop mode just to have several windows open, but every windows maximized automatically.

Something to add: After rebooting, now I get an empty desktop, without the upper and lower bar. The only way I found to launch an app. is to create a launcher for it (using secondary mouse button). Now I am running firefox but it runs without any "decoration" so I can't resize it and it is fixed to the upper left corner.
Since I plan to use this netbook most of the time with this monitor, I think I will install plain vanilla Ubuntu, because it is pain to loose every desktop element when swcthing to desktop mode, btw, I don't know how to switch back from this situation.

The disabling of maximus's automatic maximising while in classic mode was added in the last release of desktop-switcher and has landed in Karmic.

I find this bug is still present in Karmic RC.

I had Jaunty UNR installed and then upgraded to Karmic RC. I have desktop-switcher installed 0.5.8-0ubuntu2. Which package version contains the fix?

I just rebooted, logged in to classic mode, and even though maximus is running, it is not actually forcing windows to be maximized and without decorations.

However, before I rebooted, I used desktop-switcher to switch to classic mode, and maximus was both running *and* still forcing windows to be maximized and without decorations. Perhaps it's only dynamic switching that is still buggy?
