Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

In Ubuntu 9.10 alpha I can not connect to either Yahoo or irc with empathy.

With irc it just says network error (trying to use freenode).

With Yahoo it never offers to enter the information on my yahoo account. So I can add yahoo, but not the account information.

irc is not an option in 9.04, but yahoo is working in 9.04.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Is this still a problem? if no, let us know, if so please do the following.
Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 428971

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Thanks in advance!

I am having the same Yahoo "Network Error" problem. I tried to do an apport-collect for you, but bug is closed. I am on latest updates of 9.10 32-bit.

If Empathy is now the default with Karmic, would be a shame to go to release with this bug still a problem.

According to this link: http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1222710 I changed the server to cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com, this gave me a work-around for now, but doesn't seem like a good long-term solution?

I do not know if that really is the cause, but after deleting (or renaming) '.purple' directory in my home, everything then worked fine with empathy...

...if that is the case, I would only guess it could be a sort of wrong interworking between 'telepathy-haze' (using libpurple) and 'telepathy-butterfly' (since I have my MSN account configured both in .purple for Pidgin and in Empathy)
