Bug Description

Binary package hint: flightgear

Using the current release of 9.10 and flightgear, this application locks up my machine. I click on the menu entry or run from a command line shell, it opens a splash window, reports several stages of initialization, starts an aircraft engine sound track, displays a menu bar on the spash, and takes away the mouse cursor and all keyboard response. The sound track continues, the system load goes to maximum, but I can't change virtual consoles or get any keyboard or ui interaction to work at all.

I've tried this with both amd64 and i386 installs of Karmic Koala, same result.

With quick fingers, one can open a flightgear menu before the machine locks up with the menu displayed.

This bug does not contain valueable information from sender regards hardware equipent, logs. Neither came aNYboDy to ask it..

Probably is was settled with help from loal forums, if it comes from low GLX performance within ATI-Graphicscard Driver. There is a simple solution how to settle this matter;

turn off: "Use Point Sprites für Runway Lights"

How to do this when the game is not active

http://wiki.flightgear.org/index.php/Troubleshooting_problems#Corrupt_Textures_on_ATi_Cards

Therefore I'd like to axk to close this bug.

Go ahead and toss it.

The problem was in the HID driver for the joystick. I debugged the problem, submitted a patch at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/618853, went through the effort to build a second test kernel at the request of https://launchpad.net/~jeremyfoshee, posted my results, he ignored it, and marked it closed.

F**k you very much canonical, you can figure out your kernel bugs without my volunteer assistance in the future.

Roger,

exuses for not answering you soon +thanks for replying. Did you see that you can reopen the bug 618853. Did you check it against the daily-CD?

If I would only have a little more time, I would check for your changes at Kernel.org changelogs. Thanks for the work you have done for us the users of Ubuntu.

By the way Flightgear 2.0 is out since a little while & it's a great step forward. Currently it's only available via PlayDeb.net for Lucid /Maverick.

Best regards
ellis (a human beeing + I am not a machine ;-)
