Bug Description

Kubuntu Intrepid 8.10

Here is what happens when I try to rename a file on the desktop :
1) A few characters of text are copied, somewhere
2) I select a file in the "File View" widget of the desktop (left click) and press F2 for renaming : the file name is highlighted
3) right click, paste -> desktop crash, I have to restart kdm.

Check the attached file for illustration.

Does the desktop freeze, or does plasma go away, leaving you still able to do things like run KRunner with the alt + F2 shortcut?

Plasma crashes but I can still switch windows with alt-tab, open another session with ctrl-alt-F1, etc.

This seems to be working properly in KDE 4.3. (There's a specific option for making a text file out of pasted contents, and it only shows up for folders) I imagine it was crashing because it was trying to make a file inside of a file.

Changed in kdebase (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Fix Released
