Thank you for the upstream pointer. That's a duplicate of bug #38300 for Ubuntu. Maybe you could do a non-optimized build of gconf to get a backtrace with it?

The GConf package has only one patch to define PATH_MAX on platform that don't know about it, that's not likely to create that issue. sound-juicer package has no patch

Maybe you could reply to the comment on the upstream bug?
