Bug Description

Create a panel in Gnome
Drag it to the left-hand side of the screen, so that it sticks there as a vertical panel
Right-click it and select "Add to Panel"
Choose the clock applet
The clock applet is displayed, but the writing is rotated sideways.

I would expect the writing on the clock applet to be the right way up.

could you provide screenshot of this wrong behaviour and describe more clearly what do you expect from this applet?

On my dapper when I put panel on the left-hand side of the screen then clock is rotated and also main menu is - and I think that this is ok - I could see clock and main menu entries when I got panel with 28px on the left....

Thanks for your bug. That's not a bug but a feature. The label used to not be rotated (ie: horizontal on screen) and that pushed the panel limit to something ugly. There is a bug open upstream about using the rotation only when appropriate: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318377

Thanks Sebastien. Since older versions did not do this I assumed it was a bug. As a feature I personally think it's fairly brain-dead, but hey :) I'll follow the upstream bug.

Almost make this bug as reopen.

To make clock horizontal in vertical panel you need to make panel wide enough, in my case(Ubuntu 9.10) it is 44 pixels.
