Looks like your hard disk ran out of space during the upgrade. That should be handled more smoothly.

I'm reassigning the bug to dpkg as it is the program giving the error.

Yes, the log contains:
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/ubuntu-docs_9.04.10_all.deb (--unpack):
 failed in buffer_write(fd) (10, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/share/gnome/help/windows/pl/windows.xml': No space left on device

I think we can set this as duplicate of bug 312491 where the error message is discussed, for now please try to make more space available on your harddrive and then try again.
