Attansic wired network drivers need to be manually compiled

Bug Description

Computer: Acer Aspire One AOD250
Ethernet Controller: Attansic Technology Corp. Device [1969:1062] (rev c0)
Distro: Kubuntu 9.04 with the KDE 4.3 update
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

The wired network drivers are not included in the distro. However, they can be manually compiled following the instructions from a forum post. It would be grand if there was a way these could at least be pointed to so the drivers can be downloaded and built by the system if needs be (kind of like the Broadcom wireless drivers).

Hi JW,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 424805

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Rock on! I am typing this from Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 running on a "live stick". I have tested wireless and wired on the exact same hardware and both work out-of-the-box (figuratively speaking, of course).

Thank you, folks! Very awesome!
