DocumentViewer, Firefox, Evolution fail to print, othe apps print

Binary package hint: cups

When I request a print in Document Viewer, I get "Failed to print document :Can't prompt for authorization" and no print job is queued.
When I request a print from firefox, I get no print job queued, but it is silent.
When I request a print from Evolution, I get "Error printing : Too many failed attempt", and no queued job.
It works fine fo Open Office and XPDF, printe propeties "Print Test Page", and Troubleshooting test print.

This is a networked printer attached to a win2000 computer. It is working fine on Ubuntu rels 8.04 and 8.10.
