Bug Description

The sound controls icon in the notification area does not belong there. It does not notify about anything. It belongs as an applet to be added to the panel according to the Gnome HIG: http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/desktop-notification-area.html.en

To fix this, the notification icon should be an applet.

Sound control is an applet, called "volume control"? :-s

I have a laptop with multimedia keys, whenever I push the vol+ or vol- button I get an update of the volume level in the notifications area which is very useful!

I don't seem to understand your trouble, could you explain? :-)
