Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Clicking on the indicator applet, "New Session.." I get a logon screen (as expected). It shows a green tick next to my name showing I am logged in already. That's fine.

However if I click my username to get back in, the buttons become [cancel] and [login].

Login implies to me that it will login with a new session. I don't want to do that, I want ti "Switch to" the existing session.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

As part of the usual LTS approach of SRUing GNOME bug fix microreleases I prepared an update to gdm 2.30.2 which fixes this problem. I uploaded the package to the desktop PPA for now: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ppa

For testing, you can do

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ppa
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Early feedback appreciated!

With 2.30.2 I still see "Log In", and not "Switch to" for users who already have a session, both in the face browser and in the "enter user name" cases. So I'll remove this bug reference from the SRU.

The original GNOME bug was sidetracked to fix something else, so I filed a new upstream report as per upstream's request.
