Bug Description

This was originally working under my Karmic install. There have been a lot of updates over the past two weeks, and it has been that long since I tried to print to this printer. I switched it to a USB only cable and am now able to print. I see other bugs here about parallel printers failing so I'm guessing the USB->Parallel cables might be yet another bug.

I can confirm this, using:

Bus 001 Device 007: ID 067b:2305 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port

connected to a HP LaserJet 6L

Attempting to print a test page from the print admin gui results in a permanent "processing" message and no action.

The cups error log is empty.

I've given up. My printer happened to have a parallel port, so I dug out an
old cable. Can't wait for this USB stuff to get sorted out.

seasoned_geek, the USB stuff IS sorted out. Please update your system. The package cups 1.4.0-3 contains both the fixes for the discovery of USB printers and the fix of the USB backend hanging after printing a job. You will be able to print perfectly with this release. If your update does not catch this CUPS version, wait some hours until your mirror picking up this version.

I no longer had hours. I hooked up a parallel cable and managed to print what
I needed to print in color. I won't buy another USB printer, ever.
