I assume my problem is identical. However, when I try to report it I get the following:

Problem in Gnome-panel

The problem cannot be reported:

The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not be retrieved. Apport does not support reporting these crashes.

I use Karmic Studio and the 2.6.31-3-rt kernel.

The crash does not happen immediately. Typically gnome-panel crashes after about 20 minutes of use. I am usually in Firefox when it crashes (but then, I'm usually in Firefox period).

ooops, I reported a bug (433171) it seems to be similar to this one, with the difference, that in my case the bug prevents me from logging into ubuntu karmic.
