I was upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10. I left the computer and it locked up. Could not get the last revision to boot.

You can create the directory /var/run/chipcard/ in advance to avoid this to happen.
The reason for this bug has been fixed in libchipcard 4.2.8-1ubuntu1.
