Bug Description

Hi,
My 3com 3crwe154g72 wifi PCMCIA card is no more reconized after a update from 2.6.15-20 to 2.6.15-21 kernel.
I have this problem with -20 but resolved it with a blacklist islsm_pci setting.
Without this setting, -21 stop on boot after the "Starting HP Linux Printing and Imaging System" and have a kernel panic (with the recovered mode).
With this settings, -21 don't reconize the card.

With the kernel 2.6.15-25 the problem is not resolved and the blacklist islsm_pci setting don't resolve the problem.
If I remove it, I have a kernel panic!

How can I resolve this problem now ??

I can start it when the blacklist islsm_pci setting is on.

I've made a fresh install (kubuntu 6.06) with the same result.
If the islsm_pci is not in the blacklist, the computer freeze on boot.

If the pcmicia wifi card is insered after the boot, the computer freeze after
a few seconds.

I have this very problem with kernel 2.6.22-9-generic on Gutsy.
Since I have a version 1.0 PCMCIA 3Com 3crwe154g72, the ONLY way to have it working is installing the prism54 driver along with the correct firmware.
Now I have to recompile my kernel by hand to enable this module (prism54) each time.
I'd be glad if it could be re-enabled by default by you, maybe blacklisting it in /etc/modules.d if you think it could lead to problems for someone.

However, excluding this kernel module from the distribution has created quite a lot pain (a google search shows quite a few affected users).

I thus think that this is a bug concerning the kernel team and, albeit almost trivial in its solution (shipping the prism54 module), needs fixing with a high priority.

Any news on this? Needs to be fixed/closed for Gutsy release, IMHO.

Should be fixed in latest hardy, I believe. Testing is needed.
