Can you please do the following on a terminal:

$ evolution --force-shutdown
$ /usr/lib/evolution/e-addressbook-factory

then, start Evolution and try accessing your U1 addressbook and paste here all the output in the terminal, please

runout, are you running evolution? if so, something's really broken on your system, since that file belongs to evolution-data-server, which is a needed dependeny of Evolution

you are joking :)

i tried on 2 different systems.
e-addressbook-factory is on neither system.

both are:
ubuntu 10.04, 64bit
evolution 2.28.3
all updates installed.
i think, original install was 8.04 upgraded->9.10->10.04

I'm not joking, so I guess you have an old version of evolution, which is the case. So for that one, do the same, but instead of running e-addressbook-factory, run evolution-data-server-1.2

i 'd mean: joking about i'm running evolution.

if that's an old version, why is it the actual version in the repos?
