Bug Description

The applet has a big exclamation mark on it. Can't connect and re-running the ubuntuone-client-applet alone doesn't help. After killing ubuntuone-client-applet and ubuntuone-syncdaemon and running it again all seems to work fine but just for a while though. For some time the applet has been frequently disappearing. Don't know if it is a feature or a bug.

The applet is actually supposed to be disappearing now. I don't see anything indicating a crash in your logs, however the icon you describe has been appearing when tracebacks (even non-fatal) occur.

Rick, the issue with this bug is a BadTransition error, apparent in syncdaemon-exceptions.log.
