Bug Description

Fully up-to-date Ubuntu 9.04, trying to use empathy "share my desktop" with other contact on Ubuntu 9.04 gives this error on receiving user's machine:
"An invitation was offered for service x_vnc, but you don't have the needed application to handle it".

When I send a request to my contact, he gets that message, and when he sends to me I get that message. The sender gets a message that the contact rejected the request.

Same issue with jaunty and the PPA of the Telepathy Team (fully updated today). Within the PPA are also newer versions of vinagre and vino. Seems that the reciever's empathy can't call vinagre correctly. Is this a known issue or a regression?

Did you restart your D-Bus (or session) after having installed the latest Vinagre package? The service files are not re-read when installing so you need to restart once before Empathy is able to invocate Vinagre.
I think that installing the package should re-read the D-Bus configuration but some people don't agree (see #406330).

The empathy version in the PPA is 2.27.5 of 3 August, which uses org.gnome.Empathy.StreamTubeHandler.x_vnc to call vinagre. The vinagre version is 2.27.90 of 17 August, which uses org.gnome.Empathy.StreamTubeHandler.rfb. This change has been done on 10 August. If I interpret the commit texts correctly, Empathy has been updated accordingly in version 2.27.91 on 25 August.

I guess updating the PPA to the latest empathy version should fix the problem.

It now works fine on latest Karmic (version 2.28 for both empathy and vinagre). OK to close?
