[ubuntu karmic] mythtv frontend can't access backend

Bug Description
mythtv frontend running on karmic on a netbook can no longer access mythtv backend running on intrepid. it complains about the database on the host being 28 (!) versions behind, see attached screenshot.
but there aren't any updates for the host available, so mythtv is broken on karmic. (the host combined with other frontends is working well)

This is a MythTV issue. You must have matching frontend and backend versions. The Karmic are newer than the Jaunty versions.
