Bug Description

I have recently been commenting and filing bugs about frequency scaling not working on my computer, because it was running hot.
But, I just noticed that it wasn't the scaling that was bad, but a process named "kIrDAd" that was stealing almost all my processing power, and thus making the computer go hot.
I was not sure under what package to file this bug.
In kernel 2.6.15-19-386 I don't have this problem, but then it seems like no ir modules are loaded, and I can't sync with my cellphone.
Booting into the 2.6.15-21 kernel where this problem occurs, and trying to kill the evil process didn't do anything good. after that I could not even reboot.

Hi Hannes!
KIrDad is the kernel process which allows you to connect your pc and an infrared device (es.: cellphone). You can't kill it but you can unload the module "irda" or blacklist it.
However the general overhead caused by this process has been fixed in the next kernel release as you can see from this changelog:

[UBUNTU:irda/sir] Add small timeout to kthread to reduce load.

So, wait for the next (and last) kernel upload (probably 2.6.15-23) and give feedback

Hi.
This problem still persists in Dapper Stable (6.06.1). If I load the irda-utils initscripts then kIrDad is started and uses almost all CPU.
Haven't got IR working either (works in OpenSuse 10.1)
