I'm unsure how to answer this but am experiencing the same problem. Other linux distributions are working fine (trying out eduBuntu for example). Using WPA Personal. It cannot find the public sid, but I also tried entering it in (via add hidden wifi) to no avail.
Also, the instructions state we should go to Applications->System->Network but no such location exists in the menu so perhaps this is a related problem. Actually I forget the exact location that Help suggested for troubleshooting but know it did not exist, and could not find "Network" in any menu.
And for what it's worth, we also suffer from the "missing launchpad" bug but I'll try the workaround soon. However, without Qimo+Internet, well, I hope this comment helps.
I don't know if to add this here or start another thread similar to this. All of my updates went well with Qimo updates until I reached the point of " Upgrade Available---12.04.1". This upgrade to XUBUNTU broke my Network Manager and I never did recover from it. Finally ended up doing a total re- installation.
Please describe in more detail the type of network connection you have available, and what (if anything) you are seeing when trying to connect.
