Bug Description

Binary package hint: policykit

I'm not sure about the package...
I upgraded to Karmic AMD64. I have the CPU scaling applet added to my gnome-panel. When I click on it to change the settings, it opens an Authenticate window. I press the button to authenticate, but it stays open even if I keep clicking it. If I click authenticate and then close the window, the applet works fine.

Hi,

I'm not sure what would be going on here. I can't reproduce the issue
on my machine.

Does it happen with any of the other authentication dialogs?
(System->Administration->Authorizations or System->Administration->Users and Groups
are possible test cases).

When you say "If I click authenticate and then close the window, the applet works fine."
you mean that you click the "Authenticate" button and it doesn't close, and then you
click the "x" in the top right, or the cancel button?

Thanks,

James

affects: policykit (Ubuntu) → policykit-gnome (Ubuntu)

The other dialogs look like gksu, they ask for the password. This one just tells you that it needs you to authenticate and has the authenticate button, no password field.
Yes, I click the authenticate button and it doesn't close, so I then click the X.
Actually, it seems to be able to change the frequency once, and then it kind of freezes... not sure if that's a separate issue.

Could you provide screenshots please? I'm very confused about what you
are seeing.

That's quite possibly related.

Thanks,

James

The first time I click on it it brings up the choices for speeds and settings. If I choose one it gives me the window.
If I click on it again, it brings up the choices again. If I choose one it closes. After this it will not respond to click or mouseover.
Here's a screenshot.
The cancel button doesn't do anything, either. Only the X does.

I have a guess as to what caused this...
When I upgraded to Karmic, I think it got rid of my user's password. I went to the users and groups config, and tried to set it to what it was before, and it wouldn't let me, because it was too short. I changed it to a longer one, I'll see if this changes the behavior or not.

So much for that theory, it's still doing the same thing.
Also... I actually get the same kind of dialog for any authenticating program. I think it's related that it doesn't ask for my password on login... but I'm not sure why it's doing that.

I get this error as well. When ever I need to authenticate with the root password (Enabling third party repo etc.) it will ask for the password, once entered and the authenticate button is clicked the window changes by removing the password field. I actually have to click <X> at that point to get the window out of focus. It still does authenticate but you have to manually close the window.
